Colonic Hydrotherapy Treatment

What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon Hydrotherapy, also known as a "Colonic" or "Colonic Irrigation" is a gentle, and effective method of removing accumulated waste from the large intestine. By introducing filtered water into the colon, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. This process is repeated a few times during a session to give your colon a fresh hyrated feeling. Colon Hydrotherapy best benefits the body when used in combination with adequate nutrient and fluid intake as well as exercise.

What is the Colon and What Does It Do?

The Colon , large intestine or bowel is situated in the abdomen and forms the last part of our gastrointestinal tract, which extends from our mouth to the anus. The colon is approximately 5 feet long and 2 ½ inches in diameter.

Colon Hydrotherapy, an effective method for cleansing the large intestine, has been utilised for centuries as an adjunct to proper exercise, plenty of water, nutrition and personal hygiene.

An extremely important organ in its own right, it carries out a number of vital functions including the completion of the digestive process involving absorption of water-soluble nutrients as well as the synthesis of certain vitamins. The colon is a major part of the excretory system, and is responsible for eliminating food and other body wastes, as well as protecting us from infection and disease.

The process of digestion, from ingestion of food to defecation, normally takes between 12 to 24 hours assuming that the colon is fully functional and non-toxic. Irregular or infrequent bowel movements can allow toxic residues, from the by-products of undigested foods, to remain in the colon.

A person with a healthy colon will have 2 to 3 bowel movements per day, shortly after each meal taken. Elimination should be complete and easy. The stool should be light brown in color, long and large diameter. There should be no offensive odor and it should break apart with toilet flushing.

What Happens During a Colon Hydrotherapy Session?

A Colon Hydrotherapy treatment will typically last an hour. The session will begin with the therapist taking the clients case history followed by a thorough explanation of the procedure. The client then changes into a gown.

During the colonic treatment itself, the client relaxes on a treatment couch in complete comfort. From the hydrotherapy equipment, a small disposable speculum is gently inserted into the rectum, through which warm filtered water passes into the colon. The speculum has separate water and waste line that is attached to the hydrotherapy equipment

The warm purified water is run very slowly into the colon, when slight pressure builds up in the colon, the water is gently released along with waste matter from the colon. The Colonic Hydrotherapy equipment used at Ultra-Figure fills at a very low constantly monitored pressure. When slight pressure builds up in the colon, the water is gently released along with waste matter from the colon. The process of filling and releasing is typically repeated 5 to 6 times during the treatment. Whilst the client is releasing waste, the therapist will use light massage on the abdominal area to increase peristalsis (the muscular action of the colon to move waste through). This in turn will loosen faecal impaction, dislodge toxic waste matter adhering to the walls of the colon and will assist in moving gas through.
